You Have What it Takes: Let’s Get Out of Paralysis and Take Empowered Action

Erin Monahan

You have what it takes. You just need to get outside your comfort zone and apply it.

As a mindset and business coach this message applies to entrepreneurship, of course, but since we integrate anti-racist and feminist values into everything we do around here, this is a direct call to action to anyone like me: white, cis, able-bodied.

I have always been outspoken. I had an obsession with truth and justice from a young age. And I grew to learn that a lot of this was rooted in white saviorism. When I started looking in the mirror, like really looking in the mirror, I hated what I saw. I realized that I’m Amy Cooper. I’m Lana Del Rey. I’m Karen. And I hated what I saw so much that I went into a long depression without realizing it and I also broke out in the most heinous acne break out I have ever experienced. That was two years ago.

This state of self-loathing can be paralyzing and it doesn’t help anyone. Yes, it’s fucked up that we went our entire lives perpetuating and upholding violence against Black people. And now it’s the cop in our head telling us that we are pieces of shit and we don’t deserve to live or do anything. This is entirely unhelpful.

Don’t listen to the cop in your head. We all have important roles to play in this fight…
