Where Are Your Tears for Breonna Taylor? Did You Use Them All Up for RBG?
A lot of fellow white women are more upset and shedding more tears over Ruth Bader Ginsburg than Breonna Taylor. But Ginsburg’s actions in office are a part of the reason why Breonna Taylor was murdered.
I’m hearing white women say, “RBG faced so much oppression and hardship in order to be appointed.”
“She made mistakes.”
“The Conservatives hated her. They didn’t embrace her until the 90s.”
The point is that she was embraced. She did live a long life despite any hardships or misogyny she faced. Her whiteness granted her access to acceptance, power, and resources. Black women aren’t embraced in the same way, or at all, and there’s proof of this in the way Ginsburg hired clerks. She hired only one Black law clerk since joining the court in 1993. Sure, half of them were women, but they were white women. When will learn that sharing power and resources solely among each other is not liberating or just?
White supremacy is individualism. RBG was taking action that helped HER individually as a white woman gain access to power and resources.
Her actions were fueled by her own needs, desires, and issues as a cis, white woman, not for the well-being of all women. Her “progress” was individualized. It was…
